	Mini sonometer Ref: 290-114 Instead of a one-off demonstration use the mini-sonometer to give your students hands-on experience of sound production. The apparatus is constructed on an acrylic base measuring 650 x 100mm with an integral pulley wire clamp and half metre scale. A standard steel guitar string is supplied together with two moveable bridges. The wire can easily be loaded with standard slotted weights (up to 1kg) and the effect on pitch observed together with length change investigations. More quantitative work can be carried out using tuning forks to determine frequency in the usual way or by using the unique pickup system (290-119) in conjunction with an oscilloscope. 	Sonometer pickup Ref: 290-119 This device revolutionises sonometer work by removing the tedium of tuning forks (and tone-deaf students!) and replacing it with modern measurement through an oscilloscope. The assembly contains a single magnetic pickup with 4mm socket connections which can be held beneath any sonometer wire. Oscillation period can be taken directly from the oscilloscope screen since the output of the device is in the region of 50mV. Frequency can be calculated and many investigations into standing waves can be carried out. Constructed in clear acrylic measuring 80 x 35 x 25mm.
