LDR system LDR system Ref: 280-210
An LDR mounted on a hardwood base with 4mm socket connections. Supplied with 12 precision calibrated plates which can be accurately located over the centre of the LDR to permit different areas to be exposed. The apparatus can be used in open investigations such as 'what factors determine the resistance of the device?' or more controlled experimental work such as how does the resistance vary with area exposed or how does the resistance vary with position of the lamp etc. An additional plate is supplied of 'unknown' aperture size. Using this an A Level group could be given the task of determining its aperture diameter by an electrical method without further input from the teacher. LDR assembly 80 x 90 x 30mm with plates 40 x 22 x 1mm covering the range 1.5 to 9 mm diameter apertures. Supplied with full instructions specimen results and photo-copiable worksheets.

Kubic Bubbles Kubic Bubbles Ref: 280-244
Kubic Bubbles - A practical way to visually “prove” geometry problems and demonstrate light refraction. Build cubes, octahedrons, tetrahedrons, and prisms - then dip them in soap-glycerin to produce fascinating shapes with the smallest possible surface areas. Instruction booklet explains formation of surfaces by each of the frames and examines properties of soap films.

Solar Cell System Solar Cell System Ref: 280-214
A solar cell (40 x 20) mounted on a hardwood base with scale and 4mm socket connections. An aluminium cover is provided so that the cell may be obscured by varying amounts determined by using the scale. Investigations can be undertaken such as the factors which determine the output of the cell. Typical procedures could include varying the area exposed to a constant brightness; varying the distance between cell and source; varying the current supplied to the source etc. A second cover is supplied with a 16mm aperture which would allow imaginative students (or A Level students) to investigate the output of the cell when different regions are exposed. Supplied with full instructions specimen results and photo-copiable worksheets but requires a sensitive d.c. voltmeter in the range 0 - 1V
