Project Book & Muscle Wire Kit Project Book & Muscle Wire Kit Ref: 180-750
Everything you need to successfully design build and operate devices with Muscle Wires. Study their uses in heat engines industrial medical and aerospace applications electronic and mechanical devices robotics virtual reality systems and more. Gives the essential Do's and Don'ts of designing constructing and powering Muscle Wire devices. Create dozens of devices from simple levers to multi-action robots. Get detailed instructions for fifteen hands-on projects including Boris the six legged motorized walking machine. Includes one metre each of Muscle Wire 100um Ø and 150um Ø with crimps and instructions to build all the projects in the book. FLEXINOL SHAPE MEMORY ALLOY - Muscle wires are thin strands of a nickel - titanium alloy called flexinol - a type of Shape Memory Alloy. At room temperatures Muscle Wires are easily stretched by a small force. However when heated by an electric current they try to return to the 'unstretched' size contracting with a usable amount of force. By taking advantage of this it is possible to devise an exciting new way of powering mechanisms. An ideal material for light-weight actuators and power switches and requiring low voltages can be used in conjunction with control boxes.

SumoBot Robot Serial SumoBot Robot Serial Ref: 180-069
A stamp 2 based competition ready robot designed within the Northwest Robot Mini-Sumo Tournament rules. The robot will locate and knock its opponent right out of the ring while detecting the outside cicrcle should an escape move be necessary. The robot fits within a 10cmx10cm square and weighs less than 500 grams. Comes with a serial port.

The electronics consist of a surface-mounted BASIC Stamp 2 module, infrared sensors detect your opponent and the edge of the sumo ring. The hardware package includes the black anodized aluminium chassis and scoop, servo motors, wheels, 4AA power pack (batteries not included) mounting standoffs and screws. The included documentation takes you from basic moves to one-on-one combat!

Boe-Bot Robot Serial Boe-Bot Robot Serial Ref: 180-077
Boe-Bot Robot with a serial connection.

The Boe-Bot robot is built on a high-quality brushed aluminium chassis that provides a sturdy platform for the servo motors and printed circuit board. Mounting holes and slots may be used to add custom robotic equipment. The rear wheel is a drilled polyethylene ball held in place with a cotter pin. Wheels are machined to fit precisely on the servo spline and held in place with a small screw.

The Boe-Bot robot's flexibility stems from the fact that it's a rolling Board of Education carrier board (circuit board the robot is built on). All I/O projects are built on the breadboard. The Board of Education programming board may be removed to be used as your platform for the Stamps in Class curriculum. The robot may be programmed to follow a line, solve a maze, follow a light or communicate with another robot by following the instruction of the Robotics text provided.

Specifications:
Power supply: 4 x AA's for Basic stamp microcontroller and motor control (not included).
Required assembly tools: Angled cutters, small Phillips screwdriver, and 1/4" wrench (not included).
I/O components: LED's, speaker, pushbutton, photoresistors, resistors, and capacitors, infrared LEDs and receivers.
Use of Basic Stamp I/O pins: Components are placed on the breadboard and may be moved around. Flexible use of I/O pins.
Object detection: Infrared object detection, object detection with whiskers.
Contents: Basic Stamp 2 module, Boe-Bot robot kit (chassis, wheels, servos, whiskers etc.), software, serial cable, and Robotics text with projects. (4 x AA batteries are required but not included. Cat No. 250-436)
