The most cost effective and fastest 3D printing system for Rapid Prototyping. The DESIGNMATE MX allows the full potential of ProDesktop CAD design images to be realised.

Using software developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and proven HP inkjet technology, the machine produces 3D models built up in fine layers using plaster powder and water based binder. The models are then infiltrated with additional waxes or resins to increase strength and temperature resistance. Models can then be painted, electroplated and if necessary sanded to a high finish.

By producing actual physical models from ProDesktop and other 3D CAD packages, students are liberated from the traditional constraints of workshop manufacture and can create sophisticated prototypes which include moving parts and intricate detail. Running costs are reasonable, there is no waste material and with recyclable powders many prototypes can be produced for as little as £2.00 each.

SW5 Waxing System Ref: 180-902
3D models with wax is a simple, quick and cost effective way to improve part strength and surface finish, and to prepare models for other subsequent post-processing steps.

The Waxing System is an optional piece of equipment which allows quick and inexpensive infiltration of printed parts with wax to enhance strength, provide uniform part finish and highlight colour, or to create patterns suitable for investment casting. The Waxing System also doubles as a drying oven for rapidly drying parts even if they are not to be infiltrated with wax. After the initial warm-up period, the Waxing System maintains a bath of liquid wax at a constant temperature. Models are placed inside, where they are preheated, which thoroughly dries the parts and raises their temperature to match that of the wax bath. Post-heat allows the wax to form a smooth outer surface on the parts.

Once post-heating is complete, the parts are removed from the machine and set out on paper towels or another absorbent material to cool. Parts are then ready for final use. The temperature of the liquid wax is normally maintained between 150°F and 175°F (65 to 80°C). The design of the Waxing System prevents direct operator access to the liquid wax bath.
